This photo comes from one of my favorite sites to peruse, DAILY COYOTE. If you haven’t visited this site, go there now. It’s really a nice little break in the day that is always sure to bring smiles. The story of how the woman ended up with a pet coyote is amazing. Going back through the archives is most definitely worth it.
The author of the blog has a book coming out about her coyote and their experiences. I for one plan on buying it.

I can’t help but thinking that keeping wild coyotes as pets is a bad idea. (even when raised from pups)

Did you read the history of how she aquired teh pup? I absolutely agree that keeping wild animals as pets is a bad idea; however, in this situation and how it was managed…I think it’s an ok thing. She’s proven through much dialogue and comments (which she has since disabled) that she did all her research and I believe she went about things quite well.
BUT again, I overall do agree.
