I haven’t posted. The beginning of the year, although is going great, has been hectic.
I absolutely LOVE my new school and the teachers I’m working with. I think I have an awesome AP who is honest, down to earth and humble. If she snaps at someone (she’s been working crazy long hours), she can come back and admit it. She values our opinions and works really hard to always be supportive. She is a teacher through and through; the perfect type of administrator!
My kids are pretty much awesome so far. Considering how imbalance our classes have been and the changing around of classes, they have been patient and mature. STEM is on the 4th and 5th floors, and the kids barely complain about the stairs. Many were apprehensive about coming to the new school and now have shared how much they like it. They have school pride! GO DRAGONS!
I’m also impressed at the number of kids who are willing to share their writing and work in groups. In one week I’ve had them stand up and share, work in groups, write, etc. I’d say all in all things are great.
There are of course a few problems at the new school. Some plumbing issues, some furniture that just now is getting delivered, the construction crews are there every day after kids leave. LOTS of stuff to do. There are also problems with some kids fighting and graffiting; however, I am proud to say that so far NONE of the issues have been kids from STEM.
Man it feels great to enjoy where and who I’m working with

Why would they want to mess up a brand new school? I just don’t understand this type of behavior.
It’s good to hear things are going well there. Keep up the good work and have a good year.
Love the nickname of Dragons! Pretty cool.
Keep your thoughts with us tomorrow… Hurricane Ike is bearing down on us.
Hi, there,
I found you through Cal Teacher. I tried accessing your profile – do you each “ivrit” or Jewish studies?
I taught EFL in Israel for 12 years (lived in Israel for 18 years) and both American and Israeli educational systems are so different from each other.
Rosh Hashana is so good for discussing new beginnings for ourselves and for our students. So on that note, glad you had a good start to the school year, and Shana Tova!
