Thursday was an interesting day. After work I was headed across town (Hollywood to Century City) to pick up lots of good teacher supplies donated by a friend whose office is downsizing. Avi and I headed over there, loaded up the car, and then decided to find a vegetarian restaurant in the area. We entered “vegetarian restaurant” into the awesome GPS in our Sprint Mogul phone and discovered Real Food Daily was close by. Ok, the food is DELICIOUS, but pricey. Dinner for two on a spontaneous night cost us $50. That’ was with one appetizer and one soda. OUCH.
So, we’re both tired, Avi isn’t feeling so great, I have a headache and all we want to do is go home. As we’re driving down Hollywood we pass “The Music Box” and I notice the marquee has NOFX playing. So I turn to my husband who is a big punk fan and who has loved NOFX since he was a teen, “Babe, NOFX!, Wanna go?”. He says yes. I told him, “Don’t joke”, knowing he doesn’t love to go to concerts. So I ask again and we decide to go. We pay $10 for parking and hope the show isn’t sold out and tickets are a reasonable $25. It’s not! So there we are, ages 35 and 36, spontaneously at a Punk show.
We walk in and immediately buy some shirts. They were only 10 and 15 bucks. I got
the recycle one which says, “Recycling the same music for 25 years”. Avi got a red shirt that just says NOFX and a CD for 5 bucks. COOL.
We decide we’re not up for a mosh pit and go upstairs to the balcony. We got seats front and center which was awesome. We sat next to a guy in his 40’s who was there from Arizona. Avi and him had fun comparing their favorite punk bands, me? I’m a reggae girl so I had fun people watching. We find out this is a 25th anniversary tour and that the 3 opening bands were all big bands in the 80’s. I can’t remember the first group but the other two were CH3 and Youth Brigade who were REALLY good!
The mosh pit was mellow and got crazier as the night went on. What was really fun is that more than half the audience was our age since NOFX are old school. And there were 50 year old men moshing it up. Let’s just say I was happy to be watching from above, no way I would get down in that mess!
When NOFX came out the crowd went nuts. What was really great is that they did a couple song from each of their albums and brought on stage their original band members from that time period. It was special to see these guys in their 40’s playing together. You could see the nostalgia that was there.
Oh, and something funny, two students from where I taught last year recognized me. I’m so cool! LOL.
All in all, a great night, though I paid for it the next day.

Where can i get a NOFX shirt like that or are you willing to part with urs?
Not willing to part with it and I already trimmed the bottom so it’s not too long. Google NOFX Recycle shirt, I’m sure it’s online.
I’m going to see NOFX at the end of next month, really excited about it and was more so after reading your post! I love the whole gig experience. Didn’t know Youth Brigade were still on the go, never mind touring!
